Harpers Ferry Area "History Day"

Dig out those old shoe boxes, photo albums, and scrapbooks.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 13, 2014  - 
7:00 am to 4:00 pm American Legion Hall, Harpers Ferry, Iowa

Share your photos and other OLD History items of the Harpers Ferry Area 

“DIG” out those old shoe boxes, photo albums, scrapbooks and boxes from the attic, basement, closet or under the bed and bring your treasures and they will be scanned and returned to you.
This is the first major project of the newly formed Harpers Ferry Area Heritage Society so we can Preserve and share Harpers Ferry area history.

To successfully participate please contact:
Betty Palmer (586.2642), Bill Nation (586.2708), or Jane Hasek (586.2554) for additional information. 

Volunteers will be needed to help!


+   If you have the names of the people in the photographs, the event, the location, the approximate year; please indicate that on a note with the pictures.

+   If your items are few they can be scanned or photographed while you wait.

+   If your items are many they will be marked with your contact information and returned to you upon completion of recording.
+   Harpers Ferry Area Heritage Society ( HFAHS) would be pleased to take ownership of any items you do not wish to have returned and maintain them for public access.

+   Your scanned items will be provided to you without charge on a DVD.

+   If you wish to store the images on a flash drive please bring one with you.

+   You will be asked to sign a release form authorizing HFAHS to utilize the information or photos as we deem appropriate. 

+   Family stories video-taped or transcribed and given to you at no cost 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

If you can’t make these times and an appointment would better meet your needs  contact Betty Palmer (586.2642),  Bill Nation (586-2705) or Jane Hasek  (586-2554) for additional information or if you have questions.

*Items could include:  Old photographs, postcards, slides, old phone books, obituaries, Bibles with old family histories, Church directories, Newspapers and articles, Platt books, letters, diaries, old signs and advertisements, school report cards, documents, bills of sale, ticket stubs/programs, & real estate documents.

*Subjects of interest:  events such as parades, celebrations, school events, athletics, military service, farming, schools, churches, businesses, cemetery’s, railroads, commercial fishing, boating, disasters, & building of the lock & dam,
