                                                                                                                           Great River Rumble 2017

Just a reminder that the Great River Rumble will be coming into Harpers Ferry Landing Friday, August 4, around 2 p.m.

It would nice to have several people there to welcome them.

It is really fun to see them and it is a big group this year.

We will be serving supper to them at the Community Center.  It will be a fun time.

They will tent camp at Tillinghast Park.

Come meet these interesting people from all over the country.

Any questions feel free to contact Jane Hasek or Karen Soper.

                                                                                                                Great River Rumble  2017

Harpers Ferry is the “Host community: for the Great River Rumble on Friday and Saturday, August 4th & 5th, 2017

The Great River Rumble trip is a week long paddle (kayaks and canoes) on the Root and Mississippi Rivers and this year the trip will start at Rushford, MN, July 29th on the Root River and end on the Mississippi River at Prairie du Chien, WI, August 5th with stops at Rushford, Houston, Hokah, & Brownsville, MN; Blackhawk Park, WI; Lansing & Harpers Ferry, IA; and Prairie du Chien, WI.

The group will be about 175 to 200 with those paddling as well as the ground crew.  Most will be tent camping (at Tillinghast Park and the Oil Springs School site) although a few might want to do alternative lodging.  Most leave their cars in Prairie du Chien, WI and ride a bus to Rushford to start their paddle.  If you want to learn more about this event or want to sign up to paddle for the week or just a day the web site is:  www.riverrumble.org .

The paddlers will arrive in Harpers Ferry early afternoon on Friday, August 4th. They will leave early Saturday morning after breakfast, August 5th for their last “leg” of the trip to Prairie du Chien, WI.

The “Rumblers” are a responsible group of all ages (14-84) and various backgrounds who will be from several states.  They did stop in Harpers Ferry several years ago and were very impressed with the hospitality.  They remember the golf carts escorting them around town, the friendliness of the people, great food (pies and cakes), and entertainment.
We in Harpers Ferry want to put out the Welcome Mat and bring them ashore with pride.  If you can bring your golf cart or 4-wheeler to give them a ride up to the park, around town and to their various events at the Community Center and St. Ann’s church it would be appreciated.  They also will want to visit the various establishments for ice, drinks, supplies and yes food.
